Press Release: Maak je eigen Pers!

Persbericht

Amsterdam, 23-01-2012

Hello Taptu fans:

We’ve been heads down here at Taptu to bring you our latest iOS version: 1.6.1 is now available to download. What’s new? Well, lot’s of things (listed below):

Updated Logo: It’s time we had a new logo to reflect as much as possible what the app is all about. We hope you like it.

Preview a Stream before you add it: Whether you are adding a Stream from the Topics or one you found after Searching, you can now Preview the Stream before you add it by tapping on the “eye” icon.

Add a Stream from the article page: Is the article you are reading around a topic you are passionate about? Our search engine is powerful enough to indicate which other Topic Streams the story you are looking at appears and lets you Add them directly from the article pages.

Support for Read It Later: You can now save articles you like to Read It Later – one of the best Apps out there to do so. Don’t forget you can always Bookmark those stories inside Taptu as well.

Alerts: If for whatever reason, Taptu servers are not working, we will immediately notify you with an alert. Another one will be sent to you when everything is back to normal.

Finally, we’ve tuned up the app even more, fixing a few bugs and making the overall Taptu experience speedier and more stable. We hope you enjoy the latest update.

Thanks, KP.

Hello Taptu fans:

We’ve been tinkering with the app again and we’ve got some great improvements with Taptu for iPhone version 1.6. So, what have we got for the latest update?

Linkedin Likes and Comments: Twitter and Facebook usually get all the love, but in 1.6 we’ve turned our attention to LinkedIn and added the ability to Like and Comment in your LinkedIn stream.

Color coding and unmerging on iPhone: Keeping in line with our Taptu for iPad version, we’ve now added the ability to color code all of your streams on the iPhone. That’s right, go ahead and tap into your inner geek and assign a separate color for all of your different stream groupings. We’ve also added the ability to unmerge on the iPhone. Sometimes, you might be reading one of our mixed streams or your own curated streams and want to see a source in its own stream. You can now go to the StreamStudio to do this.

Preview a Stream before you add it: Have you found a Stream and you want to take a look of its contents before you add it? Click on the preview button and navigate through the stories of that Stream. Keep it if you like it or discard it if you don’t.

Updated Tutorial: We hope you find Taptu intuitive, but just in case, we’ve tweaked our tutorial to make it easier than ever to understand quickly all of Taptu’s many features.

Finally, we’ve further tuned-up the app fixing a few bug and making the overall Taptu experience speedier. We hope you enjoy the latest update. And, as some of the new features are based on your feedback, please keep it coming, we’d love to hear your ideas.

Last but not least, there is a hidden feature – one we are very proud of. We are going to turn it ON really soon, so stay tuned.

Thanks, KP.

Taptu for iPhone and iPad fans we’ve got great news for you. We’ve just released version 1.5.1, an update that fixes some of the peskier bugs that emerged from 1.5.

What does this mean? The app is much more stable, much faster, and the lagging you may have been experienced when you were scrolling up and down through the streams has been resolved. Please upgrade to 1.5.1 now available in the App Store and let us know how you like the bug fixes. If you need help, or would like to share any feedback with us, please reach us on @taptu on Twitter, our Facebook Page, or on our Get Satisfaction page.

Thanks for trying and using Taptu!

Hello Taptu-ers,

Check out our newest update, available live now in the Apple iTunes App Store.

What’s new you ask? Well a new and improved, supercharged search experience for starters. After all, that’s at the heart of Taptu and what makes us so different. Our search tech and science is what powers the Taptu experience and something we’re super proud of. So let your hair down and go wild in the search box and type the stuff your seeking. We’ll return the results for any mention of it in any stream, and of course provide you new steams to add featuring the same query. So now, no matter what you’re searching for, whatever your into, Taptu will deliver you a stream to match your interests!

It’s probably worth taking a minute just to give you an example of how the search is different now. For example, if you’re into the Miami Heat (my favorite hometown team), searching for ‘LeBron James’ in the past would not return you streams that didn’t have a perfect match for the basketball player. But now, Taptu will display all suggested streams that include Taptu’s curated Basketball and Miami Heat streams as well as The Miami Herald’s Miami Heat blog and the Bleacher Report, since they all provide wide coverage of news related to James.

Improved search is not the only change we made for Taptu 1.5 for iOS. By popular demand, Taptu 1.5 brings some of our iPad version’s most popular features to the iPhone. At the touch of a button, you can easily resize streams to make them larger or smaller and get better organized with color-coded streams for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and even your own bookmarked stories.

We didn’t stop there! We gave our article pages a facelift, delivering full-sized photos and bigger headlines on an updated layout.

Taptu 1.5 also adds related article discovery to the iPhone app so that you can get suggestions about other stories to read on the same issue across your news sources. This feature has quickly become one of your favorite things about Taptu and we wanted to deliver it across all our platforms. Best of all, you also find trending stories on the main home screen view of Taptu for stories appearing across multiple streams.

Last but not least, after listening to all of your amazing feedback @Taptu on Twitter, Facebook or our Community Support Pages, we’ve added Instapaper support for both iPad and iPhone, giving you the ability to archive articles to read later via your Instapaper account. So now, not only can you bookmark stories to read later inside Taptu, you can export them to Instapaper, too.

So check out our newest Taptu update on the App Store and take it for a test drive.

We’re looking forward to hearing what you think!

Mitch

Hello Apple fans. You may have noticed that our social news reader app My Taptu is currently unavailable in Apple’s App Store. There’s a good reason for that: We are putting the finishing touches on a major release coming soon that you won’t want to miss.

If you’d like to be alerted to when the new version is live and ready for downloading, please email us at [email protected] . Of course, you can always check back on our blog, our community support pages or follow us on Twitter @Taptu, or on our Facebook page to get the news. Thanks for your patience as we finalize what will be an incredible update!

Thanks,

Mitch (CEO of Taptu)

Merry Christmas and congratulations on your new iPhone :-)

To get you started as quickly as possible, the Taptu team has collected our Christmas Top 10 free apps here, all of which can be found via the Apple App Store.

Firstly, did you know?

Some trivia to delight your family and friends around the Christmas dinner table…

Trivia 1: Did you know that the first iPhone, launched January 2007, was so revolutionary that it literally redefined what is meant by the term smartphone.

Trivia 2: Did you know the iPhone 4′s front and back is made of aluminosilicate glass, where aluminosilicate means aluminium + silicon + oxygen. We did warn you this was trivia.

Trivia 3: Did you know that Apple announced a white version of the iPhone 4 at its launch, but manufacturing difficulties mean it’s not likely to hit the shops before Spring.

Trivia 4: Did you know the iPhone’s moisture sensors are located in the headphone jack and near the dock connector. Phone manufacturers refer to these when considering replacements under warranty (where water logging isn’t covered), but because the iPhone’s sensors are open to the elements they could be triggered even if you didn’t drop the phone in the bath.

But onto the apps…

These apps will delight anywhere in the world. We’ve deliberately ignored apps that have a predominant focus on one geographic market.

1. Tap Tap Revenge 4: OK, an obvious one to start with… it is the number one game series for the iPhone after all, and version 4 is out just in time for Christmas. What can we say?.. It’s fun!

2. Talking Tom Cat: seriously, just try it.

3. Foursquare: at your mother’s for Christmas? Then make sure to be the Foursquare mayor there. This fast growing location based social network might even earn you discounts at your local Starbucks and Domino Pizza. I even know a father and son who vie to be mayor of their dog’s basket!

4. Groupon: possibly the most exciting commerce related app at the moment, Groupon aims to use collective buying power so that organizations can find new customers and so that customers get a better deal. Everyone’s a winner, including Groupon of course. Now in 150 US cities and 100 European cities.

5. Siri Assistant: we’re still playing with this, but we’re already sufficiently intrigued to put it in our top 10. Simply put, Siri is your virtual personal assistant. Need a taxi? Table for two? Want to know what’s on at the O2 or Madison Square Garden? Just ask it by typing or talking.

6. Instagram: This newly launched photo sharing app has hit over a million users already. Its appeal is obvious when you load up the app–interesting photos from around the world as well as the ability to share yours all in an easy-to-scroll through stream.

7. World Lens: OK, this is like magic. See a sign in a language you don’t speak? Photograph it with World Lens and see the app display the sign on your iPhone, translated! Quite incredible.

8. Skype: Why not make cheaper phone calls from your iPhone, avoiding those nasty roaming charge surprises. You can also allow people to call you wherever you happen to be for the price of a local call.

9. Layar: Using your iPhone’s camera, compass, GPS capability and accelerometer, Layar displays what your camera sees on the iPhone’s screen, overlaying information layers relevant to your needs. Need an ATM… apparently there’s one 20 yards round the corner, second turn on your left.

10. My Taptu: We couldn’t bring you a top 10 app list without our own app. Fortunately, we feel justified in light of the great ratings we’re getting (regularly attracting 5 stars out of 5). We think of it as our one-stop-app for all the news and views shared by our social networks and curated by our sterling team into ‘streams’ of interest. Just because My Taptu is free doesn’t mean it’s not valuable!

We’d love you to share this list with your friends, with other iPhone owners.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, KP and the Taptu team.

My Taptu 1.2 Update For iPhone Is Live

Work to improve My Taptu never stops, and a few weeks after our first update, it’s time for another. My Taptu 1.2 for iPhone is now live in the App Store. We’ve got a whole host of improvements making it one fully-baked social news aggregator app—we hope you think so too!

Here’s what’s new:

Google Reader Import: You can now insert up to 30 RSS feeds from Google Reader. To access Google Reader import in My Taptu, tap on the cog icon on the main screen and tap on the “Import from Google Reader” box. Select feeds to import. Tap the Back button. Tap the Done button to return to the main My Taptu view, where you will find your new feeds added.

Full Article View: That’s right, you get the full article–not just a summary–when you tap on an article card when it is available. (Please remember, not all publishers, web sites or blogs will publish their full story to feeds.) To see if the full article is available, scroll down the page.

Like, View Comments and Comment in Your Facebook Stream: We’ve added more functionality to your Facebook stream in My Taptu. Not only can you view the status updates of your friends, you can now Like their updates, view any comments already made, and add a comment yourself. And, any link they share with you will display in full on the article card, when available.

Twitter Stream Improvements: We’ve improved the user interface of how your Twitter stream displays. You can also now view the full article, when available, when a friend tweets you a link.

More Ways To Refresh Your Content: You now have more ways to get fresh content. To refresh all of your streams, pull down on the screen. To refresh an individual stream, pull it to the left. You can still shake the phone to refresh all streams.

Retina Display Improvement: We’ve ensured that high resolution images are optimised for the iPhone 4.

General Bug fixing and improvements

As ever, if you have any suggestions for new features, or would like to give us feedback, please visit our community page, or contact us on Twitter @Taptu or Facebook. Thanks!

I love new product launches. And the My Taptu launch has attracted a cacophony of tweets and fantastic coverage in the news and blogs. The Android community appears to be loving us!

What’s that? Oh iPhone. Right, yeah. Er, you can watch me do the demo if you like, my first ever voice over :-)

Ahhh, right, I understand, you actually want it on your own iPhone. Got you. Did I mention we have this awesome ad where this gentle lady becomes a little less gentle?

OK, OK! Well, in truth, we’re not entirely abreast of things at Apple HQ so we thought we’d do the next best thing – crowdsource the answer. Would you mind helping us find the answer by tweeting the answer you think most likely:

Tweet “#taptu 1” for: Apple is checking if all iPhones can cope with the awesomeness that is My Taptu

Tweet “#taptu 2” for: Apple is revising the entire front door to its App Store, placing My Taptu front and center

Tweet “#taptu 3” for: Android customers have sabotaged the process

Tweet “#taptu 4” for: The App Store team is too busy… playing with My Taptu

We’ll keep score and keep you updated on Twitter (follow @taptu) and Facebook.

Best regards, Mitch.
